Business Spotlight: Utah Community Credit Union SSUtah Community Credit Union strives to be "the best credit union in our market by becoming our members' first choice for financial services and information." They believe in "people helping people", a community business built on traditional values and financial responsibility. The credit union traces its roots back to 1955 when then Brigham Young University faculty member, Briant Jacobs, came up with a "New Concept" in financial institutions, where the union would be member owned, where members owned shares. He and six other BYU employees formed the "BYU Employee's Federal Credit Union", starting with only $35 in assets and running out of a "branch" on a stair landing. The credit union underwent a series of expansions and became the "Universal Campus Credit Union" before obtaining its current name to better reflect its growing role in the broader community. The Saratoga Springs branch is the latest branch to open so that the credit union now serves the residents of Utah, Wasatch, Juab, and Sanpete Counties. UCCU provides checking and savings accounts, as well as loans for a variety of purposes, including auto loans, student loans, and home and business mortgages. Their online portal allows members to pay bills online, to deposit money, and a variety of other services. Not only do they provide counseling to individuals and families, but they have specific financial programs for children and young adults to help them learn to make sound decisions with money from an early age.
